Berlioz, Hector - Shepherds' Farewell from 'L'Enfance du Christ'

£12.00

French composer Hector Berlioz (1803-69) originally studied medicine before going on to study composition at the Paris Conservatoire. One of his best known works is his 'Symphonie Fantastique', inspired by Irish actress Harriet Smithson whom he later married.

This piece is taken from his oratorio 'L'Enfance du Christ' written in 1853 and is based on the Holy Family's flight into Egypt. This movement, originally for organ, was composed in 1850 before the main work, and depicts the shepherds bidding farewell to the Holy Family as they leave Bethlehem. It has been arranged for trombone quartet by Helen Vollam and features on our CD ' All We Want For Christmas ' (2012).
